SITE 002 - Beaumaris, Bayside - Concept

This concept explores the potential of an underutilised site by introducing small-scale courtyard housing for young people looking to enter the housing market and older people looking to downsize in Bayside. The aim is to create greater social and age diversity while strengthening opportunities for community connection and engagement. The design approach is based on the following principles:

- Shared community spaces that create opportunities for residents to meet, connect and build relationships.
- Personal courtyards that can be made your own, while remaining semi-private and allowing residents to connect with their neighbours.
- Strong connections between inside and outside, using landscape and nature to support wellbeing, happiness and everyday enjoyment.
- Public gardens that provide opportunities for the wider neighbourhood to interact, learn about nature and develop a sense of ownership.
- Architecture that embraces joy, creating moments of joy and excitement throughout the experience of the site.
- Considered building orientation that responds to the environment while respecting its impact on neighbouring properties.
- Compact floor plans that maximise access to natural ventilation, sunlight and outdoor space.
